Developing a Anti-Terrorism Curriculum PDF Print E-mail

Last month the country's largest Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama organized an international seminar on anti-terrorism. One of its agendas is to develop an anti-terrorism curriculum in religious education. Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) is not the only institution is developing an anti-terrorism curriculum and its application.

Several related parties such as the National Education Ministry, the Religious Affairs Ministry, the Defense Ministry and civil society organizations also have similar concerns. But they have not been able yet to formulate a suitable curriculum, especially regarding its content, method and teaching and learning process application.

 Kita masih sering mendengarkan elit-elit kelompok mayoritas (mainstream) muslim mengklaim diri mereka sebagai kelompok moderat, tidak di garis radikal dan tidak juga di garis liberal. Tidak jarang mereka mencela kedua kelompok ini sebagai kelompok sempalan. Bahkan ada yang menyebut beberapa kelompok sempalan itu sebagai aliran sesat dan menyesatkan. Mereka begitu percaya diri mengklaim diri dan kelompok mayoritas muslim Indonesia sebagai kelompok moderat (tawassuthiyyah). Yang mereka klaim itu ialah tentu dari komunitas Pondok Pesantren (PP) dan atau praktisi agama selama ini aktif sebaga Jamaah Mesjid (JM).

 The policy well-known as link and match in the national system of education, since first applied in the 1990s, has vastly inspired and prompted many of high schools and higher learning institutions to set the programs of study that match and have direct link with the demand in the job market. It is therefore easy to fathom the raison d'être, among other things, why at present most of parents prefer to send their children to universities and colleges that offer the most favorable courses in which students are expected to be well equipped with expertise and proficiency relevant, applicable to the promising future careers. While the opinion that universities’ and colleges’ classes is all about preparing students for job and career is prevalent, instead the departments of Islamic studies in such higher learning institutions as UIN/IAIN/STAIN (Islamic State Universities/Institutes of Islamic Studies) have little, to say the least, to do with money-making jobs. As a result, they often suffer a steady decrease in their intake of students.
